Some builds are simply about adding a structure to a property, but this one was about creating a place for passion, creativity, and embarking on the next chapter of life. In 2025, Arnold and Diane  Mortzheim approached TM Construction with a shared dream for a space beside their Teanaway home that could be a collective for their retirement hobbies. Arnold wanted a spacious shop and garage area to keep his “toys” away from the elements, while Diane desired an indoor greenhouse for gardening year-round. The team at TM brainstormed possibilities and came up with a 2,500+ sq ft, 2-story shop with a “SheSpace”, functioning as a working shop below and an elevated retreat above.

TM started by clearing and grubbing the area next to the client’s home, framing the structure, and using the ZIP System exterior sheathing, to keep the building weather-resistant. The concrete board and batten-siding match the owner’s home perfectly, and the windows installed offer 360-degree views of the natural land surrounding the space.

The upstairs features two dormers on either side, which will serve as various creative spaces, a gym area, an office space, and two grow rooms for year-round gardening, with walk-out decks that overlook the forest. The grow rooms are completely waterproofed and include a sloped floor and drainage system, to ensure moisture leaves the building.

The TM team ensured the space was both practical and deeply personal. The upstairs multi-use space isn’t just a greenhouse and gym- it is an upscale, fully custom-designed retreat, perfect for hosting gatherings and entertaining loved ones. The main space offers a wet bar with a dishwasher, a bathroom, and even a dumbwaiter to easily lift furniture and items upstairs as needed.

Every finishing detail was crafted to reflect the owner’s spirit for travel, including organic textured drywall, exposed beams, a custom printed floral mural, hand-placed tiles on each stair step, and stunning Swarovski crystal chandeliers.

This project took about six months to complete from start to finish, and the result is a multi-functional, dream space for the happy client’s retirement. A legacy space where they can create, find inspiration, reflect on memories, and celebrate life’s best family moments, for the long haul.
